When back pain starts getting in the way.
A long drive, a day at your desk or a few jobs in the garden can feel very different when your back is sore. You might find yourself moving more cautiously, avoiding exercise or struggling to find a comfortable position.

Sometimes back pain appears suddenly. Other times it builds gradually or seems to keep coming back.

Whatever the pattern, understanding how your pain behaves, what affects it and how it is changing is an important first step towards deciding what to do next.
Understanding low back pain.
Low back pain can involve muscles, joints, discs and other tissues around the spine, although it is not always possible or necessary to identify one specific structure as the cause.

Changes in activity, lifting more than usual, an unfamiliar movement or spending longer in one position can all play a part. Sleep, stress, general health and previous episodes of back pain can also influence how your back feels.

We look at how your symptoms started, what makes them better or worse and how your back is moving. Together with your examination, this helps us understand the problem and recommend an appropriate way forward.
Pain travelling into your leg?
Pain felt in the buttock or leg can sometimes come from the low back. This may involve irritation of a nerve, as with sciatica, or pain referred from other structures around the spine.

We look at where your symptoms travel and check for signs of nerve involvement so we can better understand what may be causing them.

How we can help.
At Back In Motion, chiropractic care combines hands-on treatment with movement, exercise and practical advice. Your care is based on what we find during your assessment, how your back is affecting you and the activities you want to get back to.
Hands-on care
Treatment may include chiropractic adjustments, joint mobilisation and soft tissue techniques for your back and surrounding muscles. We adapt treatment to your symptoms, movement and comfort.
Movement & exercise
We help you find manageable ways to keep moving and gradually build strength. Exercises can be adapted around walking, work, gym training or the activities you want to return to.
Practical advice
We talk through everyday activities such as sitting, lifting, work and exercise, helping you understand what you can keep doing and what may be worth adjusting while your back settles.
Review & progression
As things change, we review your pain, movement and everyday activities and adjust your treatment or exercises where needed. Progress is based on the things that matter to you.
Your first appointment.
We start by listening to what has been happening, how your symptoms are affecting you and what you would like help with.

We then examine your back and relevant movements before explaining what we think may be contributing to the problem. We will discuss whether chiropractic care is appropriate, what your options are and what you can expect from treatment.

If we think imaging, further investigation or another form of care would be more appropriate, we will explain why and discuss the next step with you.
